Where Menucove fits

Made to be calm, not to be configured.

Menucove is for people who want a tidy bar and every app one click away, without setting much up.

No permissions to start
Tidying your menu bar needs no special access. Accessibility is only for opening menus and moving icons, and macOS asks only when you choose to.
Every app, one click away
Click the crab, type a few letters, click, and the app’s real menu opens, even for icons stuck behind the notch.
Type a command
Type “pause sync” or “new note” and press Return. Menucove opens that app’s menu and picks it for you.
Moves only what you ask
An icon moves only when you press Show or Tuck away, or drag to reorder. Menucove checks where it landed, and Undo puts it back.
Quit, and everything comes back
Every icon returns the moment Menucove quits. After sleep or lock, your bar tidies itself again.
Spots busy apps
When a background app is chewing CPU, Menucove shows you which one, with a one-click quit.

The apps, one by one.

Questions

Is Menucove a Bartender alternative?

If you mainly want a tidy bar and quick access to hidden apps, yes. Bartender does more, with profiles, triggers and widgets. Menucove focuses on tucking icons away and opening any app’s menu from one popover, for a one-time $5, then $10.

How do I hide menu bar icons on a Mac?

On macOS 26 you can turn an app’s icon off in System Settings › Menu Bar. A menu bar manager keeps hidden icons within reach instead. In Menucove, you pick your favorites, tuck the rest away, and click the crab whenever you need one.

Does Menucove need Screen Recording?

No. Tidying needs no permissions at all. Opening an app’s menu from the crab, and moving icons for you, need Accessibility, which macOS asks for only when you choose to.

What about icons hidden behind the notch?

Apps whose icons don’t fit are listed in Menucove’s popover, and clicking one opens its menu. Icons hidden far behind the notch can’t be moved by any app, but their menus still open from the crab.

How we checked.

We make Menucove, so read this page with that in mind. On 16 October 2026 we checked each app against its maker’s own website, GitHub repository, release notes or Mac App Store listing. Where a maker doesn’t say something, the table says “Not found” rather than guessing.

Claims about Menucove come from our home page and privacy page. Apps change quickly, especially around a new macOS. If something here is out of date, write to hello@menucove.app and we’ll fix it.

Bartender, Thaw, Ice, Hidden Bar, Barbee, Dozer and Vanilla belong to their makers. Menucove isn’t affiliated with any of them.
